Yori Chunsa
There is a dire need for career opportunity and support for orphans in Korea. By law, these children are forced out of the orphanages at 18 years of age with a stipend of around $4,500. Finding a decent place to live, continuing their education, and even finding menial jobs are extremely difficult because of their status as orphans. This kind of discrimination and cultural bias are unfortunately prevalent in Korea.
Yori Chunsa, meaning Chef Angels in Korean, is a non-profit organization Hooni Kim founded in 2016 to aid and support orphans in Korea. Our projects include a group of talented and devoted chefs cooking for orphans every week to introduce them to new flavors and ingredients. Yori Chunsa trains these children to become line cooks and ultimately chefs through a mentorship/apprenticeship program.
